World Safe Sport Day's call to "Stand Up. Speak Out. Play Your Part" reminds everyone in sport that safeguarding is a shared responsibility. Yet having a safeguarding policy does not necessarily mean that people feel safe, know how to raise a concern, or trust that something will happen when they do. The gap between policy and practice is therefore at the heart of this webinar.
Safeguarding on paper means having policies, reporting mechanisms, codes of conduct and designated responsibilities. Safeguarding in practice means that people understand them, trust the reporting process, recognise unsafe behaviour, know how to respond and see leaders act consistently. The webinar will explore how leadership behaviour, power, trust and organisational culture determine whether safeguarding policies actually work.
The discussion will deliberately move beyond professional and competitive sport. It will ask what every community Sport for All organisation can realistically do, even when it has few resources or relies on volunteers, insights from specialists on what is and isn't working and concrete next steps for standing up, speaking out, and playing their part.
The 90-minute program will bring together experts, leaders and professionals. It aims to enlighten, encourage action, and share best practices.
